Louis is a leading practitioner in defamation and privacy law acting for both claimants and defendants. He heads both the PressLaw team within the media litigation department and the public law team. As an expert in the field of criminal law related media matters, particularly the rights of journalists and contempt law, he is also a member of the criminal department.

Louis' clients include many major broadcasters, production companies and national newspapers. He also acts for freelance journalists and campaigning bodies. In recent years, he has conducted multiple libel claims of individuals including Christopher Jefferies, Robert Murat and Hanif Malik. He also acted as Heather Brooke's solicitor in the challenge by the House of Commons to her ground-breaking freedom of information claim to reveal the details of MPs' expenses.

Louis is highly ranked in the Chambers 2011 Guide where he is described as possessing "an overwhelming grasp of defamation law" and as "an absolutely fantastic lawyer" and in 2011 Legal 500 as "first rate".
