Statement Issued By Simons Muirhead & Burton, solicitors acting for Mohammed George - Thursday 2 April 2009

Mohammed George today won his bitterly contested libel claim against the Sun newspaper. A High Court jury awarded the former EastEnders star (Gus) £75,000 damages. The false story accused Mo of having beaten up his former girlfriend and mother of his child Emma Archibald, the daughter of the former Scottish football international Steve Archibald.

Mo George said, “The Sun should never have made false allegations against me in the first place. What is worse is that my legal fight has taken over a year out of my life and that the Sun tried every trick in the book to avoid the consequences of the damage they inflicted on my reputation. I have never been violent towards any woman and never would be and it has been extremely hurtful that people have thought of me in that way since the Sun wrote their article in 2006. I am now going to concentrate on rebuilding my career, being a good father to my daughter and putting the Sun’s dreadful allegations behind me.”
