The Employment Team had two successful outings to the Tribunal this summer. As the judgments were reserved, the extent of their successes were only known in August.

In the first case, the Team acted for the Metropolitan Police Authority defending claims of race and religious discrimination brought by Commander Hussain. All claims were dismissed.  The case attracted a great deal of media interest, as did a similar claim by Assistant Commissioner Ghafar who has decided to only bring a claim against the Metropolitan Police Service, rather than the Metropolitan Police Authority.

The second case was brought by two Parks Constables against the London Borough of Newham and others. It was a complicated race and religious discrimination, victimisation and holiday pay case with the schedule of complaints running to 18 pages - per claimant. It culminated in a three week hearing.  All of the claims brought by one individual were dismissed with the Tribunal only upholding two ‘minor’ claims for the other claimant.
